yah it's kinda dead in here. I've lived in the Excelsior since I was 3. As a baby and for part of my twenties I lived in Noe Valley.

I went to Balboa & Burbank growing up in the 70's/early 80's. I remember the old Doggie Diner, Tic Toc Drive in and H. Salt Esquire Fish & Chips! Nothing in the neighborhood now compares to the dining experience way back when!

I remember doggie diner and H. Salt Fish and Chips. Tic Toc seems familiar. Where was that at? The neighborhood has changed alot. I remember when there were only old Italian and Irish families living around us, now there all gone.

Tic Toc used to be on Ocean Street where The Discovery School now resides. Yes, the nieghborhood has changed. So many empty buildings on Mission St. too! The neighborhood is just itching for some upscale vendors to move in! Bookstores would be nice.

When I got here around 98, we had neither coffee houses nor bookstores. Now there's Claddaugh and Mama's and Martha.
The problem with bookstores is they have trouble making enough money to stay in business. I hit Goodwill on Mission for books.

So if we get a bookstore is there enough interest to keep it afloat? Who wants to start a bookstore collective?

And while we're wishing, could we bring back Rocky - not the fighter, the free-range chicken? They tried a butcher shop with Rockies in Cordoba Market a few years back, but it didn't fly.

I don't think a bookstore would survive in this area. Alot of people would just hang out and read and not buy anything.

Too bad our neighborhood can't be like Glenpark where they have a little bookstore, cafes and such. I remember a few years back when someone opened a health food store on Mission and Excelsior. That didn't last too long either!

The Excelsior is very working class and there are many households that don't really have the surplus income or would rather spend on other things. Especially with the Safeway being so damn pricey, who can afford anything.
